So, Council's at it again - or rather, they never stopped.
Before this next election, a review will take place, wondering if councillors think they should earn more money. The vote will come in July, but even if councillors are smart enough to check their calendars and then say "whoops, maybe I'd better NOT ask for more money right now", the process won't be over.
*sigh* The worst part is, in order to convince the rest of New Council to take a pay cut, some of them will argue that we have to - because they won the contract - pay the same firm again next year.
As a contender for Council (Ward 30), I am more than disappointed, but it's time to accept the issue for what it is; pervasive. It's NOT going away - the sense of entitlement that we rage on and on about is here until at LEAST December 1st of this year.
That doesn't mean we shouldn't do ANYTHING about it - far from it.
However, there's only ONE thing to do about it...wait until Oct 16, 17 & 25 (voting days, including advance polls) and register your outrage then.
Voicing it now will only tell them to keep their heads down and disguise their true intentions, and most voters' memories get blunted or muted after a couple of months. I can tell you until I'm BLUE IN THE FACE that I came up with the idea of rolling BACK salaries before Rocco Rossi, but in two weeks, you'll be tired of me saying it, and my message will get lost, won't it?
Hold onto your outrage, let it grow, then let it all out - at the right time; October 1st, start reminding EVERYONE you know.
